What does PUNA mean?

Puna is the easternmost district on the island of Hawaii, and where I grew up. In Olelo Hawaii, the Hawaiian language, puna is a spring of freshwater.

Puna holds a very special place in my heart. It's were I learned computers in the 90s. The dirt roads, catchment water, thick Ohia forests, rocky cliffs, the night sky lit up by the glow of Puu Oo, the lighthouse at Cape Kumukahi through the forest. Some of the best memories of my childhood were made fishing, diving, and camping at Kapoho.

Who We Are

My name is Jordan Naholowaa Murph. I’m a multidisciplinary artist and technical consultant of Hawaiian and Hillbilly descent. I am proud to be the son of a Navy veteran and the grandson of Army and Air Force veterans.

Taking after the three of them, I have always been a tinkerer and drawn to technology, and I loved taking apart and fixing anything I could when I was small. I cobbled together scrap parts from one of my dad’s day jobs to build us a working computer at home in my early teens, and this is when I began designing and developing websites. My first website, a Foo Fighters fan site, was even listed on their official website in the late 90s 🤓

I was introduced to photography when I was 17 and pursued a journey of communicating and illustrating stories through pictures. The digital transition in the 2000s and the need for computer based workflows created opportunities for tech-minded photographers like myself. Commercial and editorial photography and technology management took me around the world for the better part of the last two decades, and today my heart is focused on helping small businesses and non profits tell their stories and solve their marketing and technology challenges.
